This is Dejo
He’s been working at American Retro Caravans for 2 years.
“I am Polish and I do all the polishing… well that’s my main job but I do other stuff too. I love old caravans, old cars and old motorbikes this is the reason I am here. I like it.”
Dejo’s job includes polishing the exterior of all the Airstreams plus other general mechanical or maintenance work. When the Airstreams first arrive at the ARC workshop from the US he strips them out in preparation for their refit – removing furniture, pulling up floors and cleaning or repairing the frames. He also helps to patch or repair the metalwork and paints the wheels.
He sees the Airstreams as a thing of beauty – he enjoys the aesthetic and curves of old vehicles – he currently owns a vintage BMW and says “I love Airstream, every day I bring my camera and take some pictures.”
Dejo originally trained as a school counsellor and this was his main job when he lived in Poland. Since moving to the UK he has learned to apply these skills to his new line of work. He carefully performs each task on our client’s trailers with thoughtfulness and sensitivity whilst simultaneously indulging his passion for vintage vehicles.
He refuses to tell me what his favourite colour is. “That’s a stupid question!” Perhaps it’s polished aluminium?
